Empowered and United: Christine Chuka's Journey to Financial Independence Through the REPSSI Intervention Program

My name is Christine Chuka, and I come from Chimbwemauma village. I joined the REPSSI intervention program because I faced many challenges that caused me a lot of stress. I often wondered how I would support my child.

I learned about the REPSSI intervention program through Eneles Ngoma, a community-based volunteer, who recommended it as a beneficial program. That’s how I got enrolled. Once I joined, I began learning how to save money and access loans. The loan I received from the savings group helped me buy fuel for the generator to water my garden.

Managing my business has been easier with help from my sister and father, who assist with watering the garden, especially since my child is still young. As my child grows, I look forward to handling more of the work myself. So far, I’ve saved up K480 and received a K500 loan, which I invested in my garden project.

Since joining the savings group, things have improved. We can now afford household essentials and better provide for our children. I’m able to repay loans and manage my stress levels better. The profits from my business allow me to buy nutritious food like groundnuts and sweet potatoes for my children, and even treats like scones while breastfeeding.

Starting my own business with a loan made me realize that I can support myself and my child independently. The profits I make also serve as emergency funds, such as for medical expenses when my child falls ill.

I see progress in the REPSSI intervention program I joined. Our family is more united now that each of us is independent and less stressed. We no longer worry about financial dependence because everyone is focused on their own business.

Our Self-Help Group operates smoothly without challenges or stress. We are thriving individually, which strengthens us as a group. I encourage extending this program to others so they can experience the same progress we have. Our lives have changed for the better, and more people should be enrolled to expand our group.
