My name is Mbozi Chipo, I am 24 years old from Mpondwa village, and I am a beneficiary of the REPSSI intervention project, “Happy Mother, Healthy Baby.” Before joining this project, I faced many stressful situations. My troubles began when I got pregnant just as I was about to start college. Asking my parents for continued support became difficult because they were upset, which added to my stress.
Joining the REPSSI project brought many positive changes into my life. The lessons I received helped me manage my stress better. I learned that harboring pain not only affects me but also impacts my children negatively. Now, I feel happier, and my children are more comfortable coming to me with their needs. I’ve realized that holding onto grudges can hinder my ability to care for my children properly and lead to harmful thoughts, such as contemplating suicide.
My family has noticed these positive changes in my behavior and encourages me to continue with the REPSSI program. They see how I have become more thoughtful and better at taking care of my children.
In 2021, I faced another challenge when I got pregnant again. This was stressful, especially since it was my second pregnancy, and my parents became even more distant. Things began to improve when I got married, which alleviated some of the stress. I’ve learned to manage my emotions better now, understanding that these challenges are part of life.
Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I speak with my mentor. She listens to my concerns and offers advice that helps me feel relieved. The REPSSI program has provided a valuable platform for discussing how to care for our children and families, which is crucial for us caregivers who go through tough situations. Looking ahead, I hope that my children will not face the struggles I have endured. In five years, I envision them attending school and growing into better individuals.
