MIRRIAM MUVUMA MWIINGA

Mirriam is a gender activist, SRHR promoter, human rights advocate and child rights expert. She is a qualified development practitioner with a Master’s Degree in Development Studies, Post Graduate Diploma in Peace and Conflict Studies and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Development studies. She has vast experience in programming spanning more than 20 years in Zambia. Mirriam has experience in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Rights based programming, economic strengthening and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, advocacy, Project Planning and Management.


Mirriam has overseen the implementation of various projects and programmes focusing on SRHR, GBV, livelihoods, economic strengthening, promoting sustainable agriculture practices and male engagement at community and national levels through demand creation, advocacy, service provision, participatory approaches and research. She has supervised the implementation of 3 SRHR research focused initiatives among them the Community Impact to Reach Key and Underserved Individuals for Treatment and Support (CIRKUITS) and the Zambia Community HIV Epidemic Control for Key Populations (Z-CHECK) with the University of Maryland of Baltimore funded by the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) as a co-investigator and the USAID funded DREAMS initiative with the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) and Pact. These interventions invested in the enhancement of the uptake of family planning services among adolescents and young women in Zambia.


Mirriam also has strength in mental health and psychosocial support having worked with women and children fleeing from abusive homes as a result of gender-based violence and those affected by human trafficking for 10 years. She has vast experience working with stakeholders such as community leaders, policy makers, government ministries, UN agencies, EU and other partners.
